PRT 500: Conceptual Foundations in Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management
Date: October 4, 2011
I chose this assignment because of my background in Park Operations and the fact that I performed my undergraduate work in Criminal Justice. We had to write a paper on a chosen contemporary issue that was of interest to us. We had to use current research, national surveys and industry sources as a guide. As an employee of the City of Atlanta Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, criminal behavior has been a major issue in some of our parks and recreational facilities. This paper basically analyzed the criminal behavior in our urban parks, along with some of the solutions for keeping our parks and facilities family friendly.
PRT 503: Advanced Fiscal Management for Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport
Date: November 22, 2011
My primary artifacts assignment was chosen because of my affinity for professional basketball. For this assignment, we had to provide a summary of the funding of a public stadium, arena, or recreational facility to the local government. We had to research and determine what the sport organization, its owners and the local government paid for the construction of the arena and how those entities are going to pay them back. In this assignment, we had to give a detailed description of the funding sources for the construction of the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida which is home to the NBA’s Orlando Magic. We also had to discuss the overall facility construction, financial issues, and usage after construction. Finally, we had to report whether the facility uses public or private funding through bonds or loans and present their repayment schedule, as well as the sources available to pay off the debt.
PRT 505: GIS and Spatial Analysis in Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management
Date: April 30, 2012
My primary artifact for this course was chosen because of my familiarity with a GPS system and the knowledge and enthusiasm that I had gained using Google Maps. For this assignment, the City of Atlanta was planning a new tourism office or visitor center and I was hired as a consultant to help identify suitable locations for this office. This office had to be not too far from the major attractions in Atlanta, as well as close to major interstate systems and parks and recreation facilities. In addition, I chose six major attractions in Atlanta, along with their GPS longitude and Latitude Points.
PRT 507: Strategic Marketing Management in Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport
PRT 507Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center Power Point
Date: February 25, 2012
One of the major assignments that we had to do was a Marketing Plan and Presentation. We had to identify an organization, team or event and create a marketing plan. In addition we also had to present our main strategies and tactics in an oral and visual format using PowerPoint and Jing. I did my Marketing Plan and Presentation on Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, located in my neighborhood of Rex, GA.
PRT 508: Risk Management for Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management
PRT 508 Program Proposal & Presentation
Date: June 20, 2012
For my primary artifacts in this course, I chose to do the Neighborhood Skate Park as my Program Proposal and Presentation. For this assignment, we had to prepare a report describing the value of a scenario or program to a host agency. The report had to specify the liabilities most commonly associated with this scenario or program, specific management actions to either eliminate or manage common liabilities and a rationale for why your agency/community should proceed with this specific program or facility. Because I reside in an area of metro Atlanta that has a lot of skateboarders, but no official facility or park to skateboard, I chose to prepare a report on why my community should have a neighborhood skate park.
PRT 506: Organizational Behavior and Leadership in Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport
October 11, 2012
The primary artifact that I chose for this class was our final paper project. We had to do a case study on an existing SPTR organization, diagnose an organizational problem that the organization is facing, analyze the problem using the “Four Frames” approach by Bolman and Deal (2008), prescribe a solution or set of solutions to the problem and come up with an organization prognosis-how you see the effects of your proposed solution on organizational effectiveness. For this project, I chose to do a case study on the City of Atlanta’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. I chose this department because as a current employee, there are some perceived issues that we have that if resolved properly, it can elevate our department to the next level of performance.
PRT 504:Data Management and Evaluation in Parks, Recreation, Tourism & Sport
PRT 504 Logic Model-Physically Fit Youth
PRT 504 Logic Model and Indicators Exercise
Date: October 24, 2012
For my primary artifacts for this course, I chose to do a logic model and indicator Exercise on “Healthy Youth Across Georgia”. For this exercise, we had to develop and describe a logic model that could serve as a “framework” for data collection. We also had to focus on outcomes as our purpose and describe how the data could be used and by whom. In addition, we had to identify the key evaluation questions or objectives and what were the key indicators (or variables) that should be measured. We then had to describe how you would collect the data and any advantages or disadvantages that your choice of data collection presents.
